Hi guys, Today I am going to post my review of newly launched Mi home product by Mi India, i.e. Mi Router 3C. It is a most awaited product from Mi India and they launched it earlier this week at an event in Delhi and I managed to get one for hands on.

Testing environment: My room is on the 3rd floor of our complex building. I kept the device in an extreme corner in a room covered by 3 sides. My connection is 2 Mbps. I am using it for more than 24 hours continuously, connected to my all 5 devices.
Initial impression and looks: The router is extremely slim and light weighted. I felt my RN 4 heavier than the router when I took the router out of the box. 😛 The white color looks elegant and sober.
Initial review: I used routers mostly from Tp-link, D-link and net gear and with dual antennas till now, so was excited to test this router from Mi India.
First let me start with the set up of the router because it is the most trickiest part for every router. As Mi India announced during the launch that it is the most easiest router to set up, so I wanted to check that part. I downloaded the MiWifi app as suggested in the manual and tried to set up the router with that. I have a direct IP connection. But the app was not loading my Mi account and it was showing, failed to load account. I tried multiple times to load the profile even I was trying it with 4G connection. Finally it loaded my Mi account after few tries but I didn’t find any option to configure the direct IP. So I went back to the authentic way to set up a router and tried to configure it from laptop. And I found that the web portal is way much easier to set up this router. The graphical options are too easy to find out any options. I set up the direct IP within 5 mins from laptop. So, I recommend everyone to try to set it up from laptop as the graphical options are way too easy . After setting it up the router, Mi Wifi app comes in handy and it recognise my Mi account and all my devices connected to the router. It is extremely easy to set up a guest wifi which was mentioned during the launch, and also you can limit speed for every device connected to the router. The app is very easy to navigate and find any options. Don’t need to use your laptop for all those settings. But the app is little bit buggy, I need to select the options multiple time to open it as it was showing failed to load. (Check youtube reviews, everyone faces the same) But still it is very handy when your friends come to place and start consuming all your bandwidth. You can control your friend’s device bandwidth from your mobile phone. That’s all with set up and the app.

Now let’s check the speed of the connection. I mentioned that I connected 5 devices at the same time( also the app shows that which device is consuming how much bandwidth and which remains idle). I gave priority to video playing option(from the app) and also started downloading in one device. Youtube was running smooth on one device while in another device download was going on. So the claim from Mi India was right that we can give priority to bandwidth. I checked it from all of the rooms and the signal strength was extremely good not drop or loss of signal while moving.

Now come to most interesting part, the range of this router. As I mentioned that I stay on the 3rd floor and it is 5-floor building. So I tested as much as I could go. I got a signal from the road in front of my building which is almost 30 meters from my room. I got signal up to 40 meters from my room (keeping in mind that I kept the router in an extreme corner). I got signal at the roof top also but the side which is nearer to my room( only 1 signal bar but it was working at least). I got signal inside the lift and also in the stairs( that also 2 signal bars all the way). So it was really good and those 4 antennas work perfectly and it should be. Tested with 4 mobile devices and all devices were getting same signal strength at same distance even on guest wifi network.
Summary:
PROs: Light weight, small, handy, 4 antennas, good signal strength and extremely good range, less heat( continuously running from last 24 hours and extremely less heat, though I’ll suggest to keep it in a ventilated place as it hasn’t any fan for heat release) and of-course the PRICE. It can be used as a repeater too.
CONs: Only 2 LAN ports to connect your computers, a single LED notification light, buggy app(as of now) and NO 5 GHz channel.
Final verdict: If you are searching for a router to cover up most of the corners of your house at this price range and you don’t need 5 GHz channel frequency then go for it without a doubt. It is one of the extreme VFM devices from Mi India.
Thanks for reading this much. I’ll be up with another review of the 2nd device launched by Mi India in next couple of days as I am still testing that.. :p If you have any query, post it in comments.
