Nexus devices will receive update for 3 years

Google announced they will update Nexus devices for 3 years plus monthly security updates

Google said in its official blog that Nexus devices will be updated for 3 years with minimum 2 years of major updates and additional 1 year for security updates . The very first LMY48I security update is live for Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 6, Nexus 7, Nexus 9, Nexus 10, and Nexus Player. Nexus devices will be updated monthly for security patches.

Nexus devices will continue to receive major updates for at least two years and security patches for the longer of three years from initial availability or 18 months from last sale of the device via the Google Store.

The LMY48I update is security patch for Stagefright exploit that was reported last month so it won’t be having any new features or tweaks .

If you want to directly update your Nexus without waiting for OTA then you can find the factory images here and follow step by step guidance for installing new update . If you are not advanced user and don’t want to upgrade like that then you can wait for OTA as it’s already seeding to Nexus devices but updates are in batches so be patient .
